Podura was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type genus of Poduroidea, Podurellae.
It was assigned to Insecta by Geoffroy (1762); to Pedestria by Scopoli (1763); to Aptera by Linnaeus (1758), Linnaeus (1761), Müller (1764), Schaeffer (1766), Linnaeus (1767) and Müller (1776); to Thysanoura by Latreille (1796); to Synistata by Fabricius (1775) and Fabricius (1798); to Podurellae by Latreille (1802) and Latreille (1804); and to Poduridae by D'Haese (2003).
