Heterotmarus altus was named by Wunderlich (1988). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Wunderlich collection), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic. It is the type species of Heterotmarus.
