Selenops beynai was named by Schawaller (1984). Its type specimen is SMNS Do-3940-B-1 and is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (SMNS coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
