Grammonota deformans was named by Wunderlich (1998). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Madagascar copal (Wunderlich collection), which is in a Holocene terrestrial amber in Madagascar.
It was recombined as Ceratinopsis deformans by Wunderlich (2004), Dunlop et al. (2013).
