Eodoter scutatus was named by Wunderlich (2011). Its type specimen is F2173/BB/AR/CJW and is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber (Wunderlich collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.
