Taxonomy
Paleotermopsis oligocenicus was named by Nel and Paicheler (1993). Its type specimen is MNHN IPM-R.54190, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Aix-en-Provence (MNHN Paris Coll), which is in a Chattian lacustrine - large limestone in the Niveau du gypse d'Aix Formation of France. It is the type species of Paleotermopsis.
