Quinquecapsularia was named by Pessagno (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-l K Ceno-u]. It is the type genus of Quinquecapsulariidae.

It was assigned to Quinquecapsulariidae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
