Cryptorhopalum was named by Guerin-Meneville (1838). It is extant.

It was assigned to Dermestidae by Beal (1972); to Cryptorhopalina by Háva (2015); to Trogodermina by Zhou et al. (2022); and to Megatomini by Háva (2004), Háva and Prokop (2004), Zahradník and Háva (2014), Poinar and Háva (2015), Háva (2023).
