Pygidicrana was named by Audinet-Serville (1831). It is extant. It is the type genus of Pygidicranidae, Pygidicranoidea, Pygidicraninae.
It was assigned to Dermaptera by Burr (1911); to Pygidicranidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Pygidicraninae by Engel and Haas (2007).
