Taxonomy
Brachyptera was named by Newport (1849). It is extant. It is the type genus of Brachypterinae.

It was assigned to Taeniopterygidae by Sinitshenkova (1987), Carpenter (1992); and to Brachypterainae by Chen (2018), Chen (2023).
