Chiasognathidae was named by Burmeister (1847). It is extant.

It was corrected as Chiasognathinae by Chalumeau and Brochier (2001); it was reranked as the tribe Chiasognathini by Bouchard et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Lucanidae by Chalumeau and Brochier (2001); and to Lucaninae by Bouchard et al. (2011).
