Barmaleus (Parbarmaleus) sojanensis was named by Novokshonov (1997). Its type specimen is PIN 3353/339, an exoskeleton, and it is an impression. It is the type species of Barmaleus (Parbarmaleus).
It was recombined as Parbarmaleus sojanensis by Aristov and Rasnitsyn (2011).
