Repka stramenis was named by Aristov and Rasnitsyn (2011). Its type specimen is PIN 3353/539, an exoskeleton, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Soyana (PIN collection 3353), which is in a Roadian lagoonal siliciclastic in the Iva-Gora Beds Formation of the Russian Federation. It is the type species of Repka.
