Taxonomy
Halter americana was named by Cockerell (1907). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Florissant, Station 13B, which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado.
It was recombined as Marquettia americana by Navás (1913), Carpenter (1959) and Lu et al. (2019).
