Taxonomy
Megaselia dominicana was named by Disney (1987). Its type specimen is Poinar D-7-53, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Poinar coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
It was recombined as Megaselia (Megaselia) dominicana by Evenhuis (1994).
