Taxonomy
Tomocerus was named by Nicolet (1841). It is extant. Its type is Macrotoma minor. It is the type genus of Tomoceridae, Tomoceroidea.

It was assigned to Tomoceridae by Handschin (1926), Laurentiaux (1953), Hädicke et al. (2013) and Sánchez-García and Engel (2016).
