Euchirinae was named by Hope (1840). It is extant.

It was reranked as the tribe Euchirini by Bouchard et al. (2011), Allsopp and Schoolmeesters (2024).

It was assigned to Scarabaeidae by Lawrence and Newton (1995), Krell (2000); to Melolonthinae by Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Melolonthinae by Allsopp and Schoolmeesters (2024).
