Hemimylacris ampla was named by Waterlot (1934). It is an impression. Its type locality is Stocken well, 710.5 m depth, which is in a Westphalian D terrestrial shale in the St-Avoid Formation of France.
It was recombined as Sooblatta ampla by Waterlot (1931), Schneider (1983).
