Chaeteessa was named by Burmeister (1838). It is extant. It is the type genus of Chaeteessoidea, Chaeteessidae.
It was assigned to Mantodea by Handlirsch (1907); and to Chaeteessidae by Carpenter (1992) and Schwarz and Roy (2019).
