Galeruca was named by Geoffroy (1762). It is extant. It is the type genus of Galerucinae.
It was assigned to Coleoptera by Geoffroy (1762), Müller (1776) and Latreille (1796); to Eleuterata by Fabricius (1798); to Galerucae by Latreille (1802); and to Galerucini by Bouchard et al. (2011).
