Crassiorites australis

Taxonomy
Crassiorites australis was named by Zamaloa and Romero (1990). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Pollen grain (Triporate pollen grains) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Alfa dell, which is in an Eocene estuary/bay sandstone in the Cullen Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Crassiorites.

M. C. Zamaloa and E. J. Romero 1990Description. Triporate pollen grains, oblate, triangular to subtriangular amb, with straight sides and rounded angles. Pores equatorially elongated, approximately 8 gm long. Exine psilate, scabrate around the pores and in polar areas. External layer of the exine thin (less than 1 gm). Internal layer of the exine strongly thickened around the pores, with lateral (equatorial) thickening or ridge. The polar area is subcircular to subtriangular in shape and has a thinner wall. Viscin threads present in the surface of the pollen grain. Equatorial diameter 34-38 gm (15 specimens measured).
