Taxonomy
Lepidocyclus was named by Wang (1949) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-m O Ashg-m Sepkoski's reference number: 1,764]. It is not extant. Its type is Lepidocyclus laddi. It is the type genus of Lepidocyclidae, Lepidocyclinae.

It was assigned to Rhynchotrematidae by Macomber (1970); to Lepidocyclinae by Amsden (1983), Williams et al. (2002); and to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
