Helophorus (Rhopalhelophorus) praenanus was named by Lomnicki (1894). It is extant. Its type locality is Boryslawia, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial siltstone in Ukraine.
It was recombined as Helophorus praenanus by Angus (1973).
