Protegulorhynchia was named by Owen (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Protegulorhynchia meridionalis.
It was assigned to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Notosariidae by Williams et al. (2002).
