Taxonomy
Rhipidia maior was named by Unger (1841). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Radoboj (Grätz Collection), which is in a Sarmatian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in Croatia.
It was replaced with Tipula ungeri by Heer (1849); it was recombined as Tipula maior by Evenhuis (1994).
