Saturnalis was named by Haeckel (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: J l R Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Saturnalinae.
It was assigned to Saturnalinae by De Wever et al. (2001); to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002); and to Saturnalidae by Sharma and Takahashi (2007).
