Taxonomy
Promycetomyia neoempherides was named by Armbruster (1938). Its type specimen is Schempp 13020, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Randeck Maar (Schempp collection), which is in a MN 5 crater lake lime mudstone in the Randeck Maar Formation of Germany.
