Taxonomy
Allopetalia europaea was named by Nel et al. (1996). Its type specimen is MNHN-LP-R.10444, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Sainte-Reine, Foufouilloux outcrop (MNHN collection), which is in a Messinian crater lake marl in France.
It was recombined as Boyeria europaea by Nel et al. (1997) and Bechly and Rasmussen (2019).
