Tityobuthus copalensis was named by Lourenço (1996). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Madagascar copal, Antseranana region (GPIH collection), which is in a Holocene terrestrial amber in Madagascar.
It was recombined as Palaeogrosphus copalensis by Lourenço (2000).
