Taxonomy
Gomphaeschna miocenica was named by Prokop and Nel (2002). Its type specimen is ZD0184, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Bilina mine, Bílina (Clayey Superseam horizon), which is in a MN 3 lacustrine - small claystone in the Most Formation of Czechia.
