Taxonomy
Ptarmiganoides araneicauda was named by Fritz (1968). Its type specimen is USNM 153556, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pioche Shale, Bed 9, which is in a Delamaran carbonate limestone in the Pioche Shale Formation of Nevada.
