Oreonetes anceps douglassi was named by Schultz and Falkenbach (1956). Its type specimen is CMNH 11256, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was considered an invalid subgroup of Oreonetes anceps by Riel (1963); it was recombined as Oreonetes douglassi by Stevens and Stevens (2007).
