Posnanskytherium inchasense was named by Anaya and MacFadden (1995). Its type specimen is MNHN-Bol-V 003350, a partial skull (Partial cranium and mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Inchasi, which is in a Chapadmalalan fluvial conglomerate/siltstone in Bolivia.
