Taxonomy
Mailotrichocera variabilis was named by Krzemińska et al. (2009). Its type specimen is LDA 885, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Dobbertin, Mecklenburg (Ansorge coll), which is in a Toarcian offshore claystone in Germany.
