Pachylasmatidae was named by Utinomi (1968). It is extant. Its type is Pachylasma.

It was assigned to Chionolasmatoidea by Jones (2007); to Pachylasmatoidea by Chan et al. (2010); and to Chthamaloidea by Chan et al. (2021).
