Palaeomyrmecolax gracilis was named by Kulicka (2001). Its type specimen is MZ 19593, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber (Museum Ziemi collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.
