Nucleatina was named by Kats (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sn Sepkoski's reference number: 882]. Its type is Terebratula nanclasi.

It was assigned to Terebratulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Arcuatothyridinae by Williams et al. (2006).
