Dubious specimen that may not be an insect at all (or even a fossil)
Taxonomy
Exaeretoptera fosteri was named by Pierce (1944). Its type specimen is LACM S9005, a tegmen, and it is an impression. Its type locality is South of abandoned pier at Fort MacArthur, which is in a Tortonian offshore shale in the Monterey Formation of California. It is the type species of Exaeretoptera.
