Diacanthaspis cooperi was named by Whittington (1941). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Spring Hill, which is in a Trentonian carbonate limestone in Virginia. It is the type species of Diacanthaspis (Diacanthaspis).
It was recombined as Diacanthaspis (Diacanthaspis) cooperi by Owen (1981).
