Phaenoblastus was named by Fay (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l Sepkoski's reference number: 82]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Phaenoschismatidae by Beaver et al. (1967); and to Fissiculata by Sepkoski (2002).
