Taxonomy
Trichomyia axeli was named by Stebner and Solórzano Kraemer (2014). Its type specimen is UCMP 10389, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is UCMP B-8416, Copainala, which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Mexico.
