Lichas cucullus was named by Meek and Worthen (1865). It is the type species of Acrolichas.
It was recombined as Acrolichas cucullus by Foerste (1919), Foerste (1920) and Bradley (1930); it was recombined as Amphilichas cucullus by Tripp (1958).
