Kawina mercurius

Taxonomy
Cheirurus mercurius was named by Billings (1865). Its type specimen is GSC 668, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Cydonocephalus mercurius by Whittington (1963); it was recombined as Kawina mercurius by Congreve and Lieberman (2011).

E. Billings 1865Glabella obtusely conical, convex, front half tumid, sides straight or gently convex, sub-parallel, front broadly rounded. Neck furrow extending all across j posterior pair of gla.bellar furrows nearly straight and 8uIJ.paraJlel with the neck furrow, extending all across, but the middle third not 80 deeply indented; the two anterior pairs are short and obscurely marked.

The eye appears to be small, close to the side of the glabella, and just opposite the end of the posterior glabcllar furrow. The cheeks seem to have the form. of C. vulcanus

Associated with this species are some specimens only differing by having the last pair of glabellar flirrows not connected in the middle.
