Ovocarpus was named by Ubaghs (1994) [Sepkoski's age data: O l]. It is not extant. Its type is Ovocarpus moncereti.
It was assigned to Mitrocystitidae by Ubaghs (1994); to Cornuta by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mitrocystitida by Lefebvre (2000), Lefebvre and Gutierrez-Marco (2003).
