Harpes crassimargo was named by Novak (1890).

It was recombined as Fritchaspis crassimargo by Vanek (1963); it was recombined as Lioharpes (Fritchaspis) crassimargo by Pribyl and Vanek (1986); it was recombined as Lioharpes crassimargo by Ebach and McNamara (2002).
