Forbesiaster was named by de Loriol (1909) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant]. It is not extant. Its type is Forbesiaster wrighti.

It was assigned to Goniasteridae by de Loriol (1909), Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Valvatida by Sepkoski (2002).
