Myiolepta was named by Newman (1838). It is extant.

It was corrected as Myolepta by Evenhuis (1994) and Moran et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Milesiinae by Statz (1940); to Cheilosinae by Hull (1945); to Myioleptini by Hull (1949); to Syrphidae by Carpenter (1992) and Evenhuis (1994); and to Brachyopini by Moran et al. (2022).
