Taxonomy
Mesembrioxylon mazzonii was named by Petriella (1972) [Adicional samples: LP-PB 9062, LP-PB 9063]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Holotype: LP-PB 9064, a wood, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Puesto Fernández - NF Angiosperms, which is in a Paleocene terrestrial sandstone in the Cerro Bororó Formation of Argentina.
It was recombined as Podocarpoxylon mazzonii by Müller-Stoll and Schultze-Motel (1990), Brea et al. (2011), Ruiz et al. (2017), Vera et al. (2019), Stiles et al. (2020), Rombola et al. (2021), Passalia et al. (2023), Vera et al. (2024), Villegas et al. (2024), Ruiz et al. (2025).
