Taxonomy
Liliacidites contortus was named by Conran et al. (2014). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type locality is Foulden maar (I43/f8503), which is in an Aquitanian crater lake diatomite in the Foulden Hills Diatomite Formation of New Zealand.
