Mesosticta was named by Huang et al. (2015). Its type is Mesosticta burmatica. It is the type genus of Mesostictinae.
It was assigned to Platystictidae by Huang et al. (2015) and Zheng et al. (2016); and to Mesostictinae by Zheng et al. (2017) and Nel et al. (2024).
